Testimonials

These are the actual comments made by students after attending 5 months of our ESL program.

Thomas

Hello, everyone. I am very honored to introduce this school. I advocate this school in terms of improving English, special experiences and knowing God.

First of all, when I just arrived in Canada, I was afraid of meeting Canadians because my English is not enough to talk with them in English. however, after spending time with them in Okanagan base, I could talk with Canadian. I was surprised by myself. Teachers are so excellent. I could say they are truly professional for teaching English. Furthermore, one class is usually consists of only four or six students. additionally, students have to live in dormitory with Canadian. so you have to speak in English all the time. That’s why, students could learn English quicker than any other school.

Second of all, students go to field trips which include going skiing , snowboarding, swimming, hiking and so on. Especially, students could go Rocky mountains which is the one of beautiful mountains in the world. students could learn English not only from books but also activities. therefore you could change your world view. moreover, people have to have responsibility such as cleaning, vacuuming. Actually, It is not difficult but when people keep going this kind of stuffs, students could know their role. our society is like a clock. if one person doesn’t work well, the clock might be broken. Students could learn that kind of society. This duties might be very helpful when they go back home.

Finally, this school is based on God. students get a worship and talk about God for a while. It gave me comfort. teachers and staffs are also faithful christians. each of them has a very warm heart for students. hence students could know God’s love through them.

For such reasons, I strongly recommend this school. You would not regret your choice. this school might be better than any other school.

After finishing this school, you could see your improved English skills and changed your world views.

Maria

Hello, my name is Maria, and I’m from South Korea. I took ESL in 2008. However, before taking the ESL course, I was already staffing at the YWAM base since 2006.

It was a great experience. While I was staffing I learned bits of English living in an international community. However, during the ESL course, I learned more in 4 months than I did the previous 2 years. It was also great to learn about English and Canadian culture

I really enjoyed my ESL class. We not only learned English, but also had lots of fun. Every Friday we went on field trips. We saw salmon spawning, visited fruit orchards, went indoor rock climbing, and even went to beautiful Banff National park. We tasted western cooking, experienced a Canadian Christmas party, made cookies, made apple pies, and also made Jack O’ Lanterns. These experience made my time there fun.

But, the most valuable thing that I experienced in YWAM Okanagan was the Christian community based living. We attended in a base worship on Mondays and we did work duties everyday as members of the community.

The base worship was wonderful and confirmed our true identity in Christ. We also helped our community’s needs with our gifts. Sometimes it was hard but it was worth it. It humbled me and gave me great to joy, patience and peace. We saw a living God who worked every day in our lives through the devotion time. I saw many students who didn’t believe Jesus, accept Him as their savior. It was amazing!

YWAM Okanagan ESL is not just about learning English. It’s about your whole life. I believe your desire for learning English is from God, and He wants to use you for the Nations.

If He calls you, respond now!

God bless you!

Algis

Algis left Lithuania with a very limited knowledge of English.

He returned six months later able to carry a conversation without problems and even catches the jokes!  Besides that he had a great time with his ESL group, learned much about Canadian culture and saw the beautiful nature that God has given our nation!
